I absolutely love TED. In the comfort of your own home TED offers scholarly, inspiring seminars from a vast range of subjects involving the sciences, technology, global issues and much more. Described as "the ultimate brain spa" these seminars are a source of brilliant, curious minds and groundbreaking content.

Duolingo is quite personal to me as It was one of the fundamental tools I utilised to learn my first ever language beyond my native tongue. I’ve recommended this fun language-teaching website (and app) countless times to my friends. Learning a language will literally open countless new doors in your life. Suddenly you're able to converse with millions of new people on this earth and potentially find opportunities in countless new lands. Learning with Duolingo is rather fun and addictive. Earn points for correct answers, race against the clock, and level up along the way to building your knowledge. I personally found that Duolingo excels in building that essential beginner reading & writing base placing you between the A1 and A2 area. I feel it must be said that Duolingo only falls short in the vocal aspect of language learning. For this, we must move onto other platforms to continue our language development.

Youtube ah? Big surprise. Youtube offers a monumental resource of video tutorials from humans all over the globe teaching you their skills in their spare time. What a time to be alive - make some coffee, load up some free guitar tutorials and teach yourself how to play an instrument. Who the hell can get bored in this day and age? Youtube continues to be a powerful force in offering invaluable content from all across the spectrum of knowledge. One of my favourite Youtube channels: Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell - A channel that explains scientific things in a clear, beautiful way.

9. Project Gutenberg

Plato's The RepublicThe Complete Works of William Shakespeare and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle are just some of the thousands of free books available to download via Project Gutenberg. No excuses, load up your kindle and put up your feet as you dive into a new story today!

Another excellent resource for online learning from one of the leading providers of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) - The teachers seem to be of a very high standard (One course I looked at for example: Western History had a teacher who was long time foreign policy expert under multiple US presidential administrations) Many of these courses are available free of charge and many are not. Financial aid is also an option for those who feel they're eligible, which I think is an excellent feature.
